HAPPY PARENTS

1:1 Parent Coaching – “Happy Parents”

Sharon came highly recommended by a friend and to be honest, she has surpassed our expectations.

“We have worked as a family with Sharon for over 2 years now.  We are a family of four with two high school aged boys.  I originally reached out to Sharon because there was a very stressful dynamic between my husband and my oldest son.  This situation had been going on for years and it is when I was laid off from my full time job that I became fully aware of it and realized it might be having a very negative effect on our youngest son.  Sharon came highly recommended by a friend and to be honest, she has surpassed our expectations.  Sharon used both a holistic and individual approach to family counseling and, by that I mean that she is multifaceted in her approach.  She was able to pinpoint overriding themes and stress points in our family dynamic and then drill down individually to trouble shoot tensions. Sharon also helped us set boundaries with our youngest – he was spending way too much time gaming – I can honestly say that he is following the plan we laid out together and is happier. Also, Sharon always followed through and checked up on us when we were trying mew strategies and it was really convenient that she came to our house.  Sharon also made herself available via phone outside of our regular appointments.  As of now I can truly say that we are a harmonious family – yes of course, there are incidents here and there but never daily like before. All in all, reaching out to Sharon was the best decision for our family.”

Working with Sharon has been amazing. It completely changed our perspective on parenting.

“We had a hard time managing our kids when they acted out and found that we were increasingly unhappy with our family dynamics. It had reached a point where we felt we needed some outside support. Working with Sharon has been amazing. It completely changed our perspective on parenting. Not only was Sharon a great listener, but she was empathetic and nonjudgmental and provided many practical strategies for us to implement in various situations. We developed a more united and consistent approach to parenting that resulted in a less stressful home environment, with fewer outbursts from our kids. We highly recommend Sharon to any family struggling with parenting!”

Sharon has been a constant support to my family and me as we’ve made tough decisions.

“Sharon’s phrase “Have you laughed with your kids today?” plays in my head as I navigate parenting. I met Sharon when my oldest was just starting to push back on the limits, but we were still finding time to laugh! As my children have gotten older, the laughter is sometimes harder to find. Sharon is able to listen without judgment and guide in a way that makes sense. Her phrase “get curious” has helped me connect with my kids. Sharon has been a constant support to my family and me as we’ve made tough decisions. I know I can count on her advice with each of my kids’ different personalities, and they are things I can easily integrate into our lives. Sharon has helped all of us so much!”

I don’t hesitate to say these sessions were literally life-changing.

“We worked with Sharon over the course of a few months. I don’t hesitate to say these sessions were literally life-changing. I mean, how else can I describe them, when Sharon helped my wife and I learn new parenting philosophies and techniques that had a direct and positive impact on our, and our children’s’ lives?!

The best part of working with Sharon is how her guidance was easy to digest and apply. There’s no shortage of information out there. But there is a shortage of clear, concise, digestible, and impactful information. And Sharon hits the sweet spot!

Our sessions consisted of my wife and I sharing high-level thoughts and specific examples about our children, and how we parent them. Primarily, we wanted guidance on how to parent a couple of rambunctious young boys who have a tendency to act out at school, struggle with impulse control, and can be, uh…destructive… at times (okay, let’s call it what it is — they beat each other up!). I admit we probably got verbose at times. Nonetheless, Sharon listened to every word and then shared her thoughts. With each bit of insight Sharon shared, my wife and I learned something new and changed our parenting approach. If I’m being fully honest, Sharon helped us realize that some of the behaviors our children exhibited were a manifestation of the way WE parented THEM. That is not an easy pill for a parent to swallow, but Sharon’s ability to help us realize that past parenting “mistakes” (my word, not Sharon’s) are not a bad thing; but rather an “opportunity” to make positive changes going forward was instrumental to our success from these sessions!

My wife and I set a goal to take one thing away from each session that we could tangibly apply to our lives. We probably ended up with two dozen golden nuggets that we continuously incorporate in our day to day. My biggest takeaway from my sessions with Sharon is that the most important thing is to focus on your relationship with your child. While seemingly simple and obvious, this was a life-changing shift in our parenting philosophy.

One more thing worth sharing is that these sessions helped our relationship too! The sessions gave my wife and I alignment on how we should parent, and we became a more cohesive parenting unit! We updated & aligned our philosophies on how to parent. Having that alignment allowed us to help each other when we’d notice the other struggling, and remind each other some of the things we learned in our sessions with Sharon.

Sharon is worth every penny and more!”

I loved how she viewed our kids and how helpful that was to us.

“Our work together with Sharon has been extremely helpful.

Our sessions were a time to stop and think about things we did, or wanted to do, without being in the middle of them.

Even though we are a special case in many ways, Sharon was able to cut through much of the haze, guiding us on what to implement for our special case. Sharon would narrow down the potential path based on our individual needs.

She even made a house call just so she could meet the little wonder kids we had talked so much about. That was probably the most fun one. She could see from that, the good and not so good side of our kids and how we all related. She was nice enough to say we were doing a good job; the kid(s) are fun and smart, yet still say, “but maybe try this way”.
She had a special way of talking to the kids that made them feel appreciated, and helped us to see what to appreciate in them too. I loved how she viewed our kids and how helpful that was to us.

We’re still working through some of her ideas.
Thanks so much for EVERYTHING Sharon!!”

Our family is in a much better place today, thanks to the help and support we got from Sharon.

Sharon has been an amazing help in parenting our teenagers. We needed help to get on the same page in how to parent; Sharon has done that and much more. She helped us to better understand what teenagers need and that, even in this difficult phase of parenting, it is possible to succeed. Our family is in a much better place today, thanks to the help and support we got from Sharon. Definitely a 5 star rating from us!

Sharon taught me to communicate with my boys in a more positive approach where we all understood everyone’s needs.

I’ve met with Sharon in both a group setting and one on one. I needed advice on handling situations with my boys with a positive impact. I felt as if I was yelling too much and engaging in power struggles. Sharon taught me to communicate with my boys in a more positive approach where we all understood everyone’s needs. What I loved in our sessions is Sharon had me work to find solutions and we then worked together to find the best answer to the problem. Sharon taught me to be a better parent; how to address situations and how to avoid power struggles with my children. I’d walk away feeling able to handle anything that came my way.

Sharon does this in a way that is so caring and engaging, that even the most difficult feedback is easy to see and accept.

Sharon and I have been working together for almost a year and in that time she has provided me with a variety of tools and approaches, which has allowed me to engage my children in a way that enables us to truly communicate. I have gotten to see the depth in Sharon’s approach to varying situations. She is versatile depending on the person and the situation. Sharon can be direct in her feedback; she can be a wonderful listening ear when I need to talk out my feelings; and lastly, she has been a coach who helps me think about issues from different perspectives. One of the most valuable sessions was when she got me to think what it must feel like to be one of my children. Sharon does this in a way that is so caring and engaging, that even the most difficult feedback is easy to see and accept. Parenting is never easy, but the journey is much more enjoyable now!

Her objective is to create a fun, loving and positive environment at home that stems from a strong relationship with your children.

Sharon is such a wonderful and energetic person to get to know! My husband and I first met with her after many close friends recommended her as a relatable, down-to-earth and positive parenting coach. We were in a parenting rut and needed some fresh perspective and practical advice on some challenges we were experiencing with our children.  After meeting with Sharon in our home, I truly felt reinvigorated and armed to approach the issues in a loving and constructive manner. I also invited Sharon to speak at a mothers’ event at our children’s school. She did such a great job at really getting down to the basics of parenting and suggesting ideas that were useful for the entire audience. I fully recommend Sharon to anyone looking to improve, enhance or totally make-over their parenting strategies. Her objective is to create a fun, loving and positive environment at home that stems from a strong relationship with your children.

Her unique perspective gave me tools to reestablish the most precious thing – my relationships with my girls.

I call Sharon the teenage whisperer. I was at a point in my life where I was a single mom trying to raise two girls, feeling frustrated all the time while also feeling guilty for doing everything at 70%. The tail was wagging the dog at my house and my relationships with my kids were slipping away. I didn’t know what to do. And then I met Sharon…she is an absolute positive ray of sunshine. She is a consummate professional, but she has a warm, kind, empathetic way of dealing with any and all situations. Her unique perspective gave me tools to reestablish the most precious thing – my relationships with my girls. She offers a personalized touch and deals with real-time situations – with a sense of humor and absolutely no judgment. I instantly started trying what she suggested and immediately saw results – even when it wasn’t comfortable sometimes. She turned a desperate frustrated mom into a mom who loves being a parent and has a closeness with my girls that I didn’t even think was possible. I would recommend her to anyone who values a strong family bond and wants to learn the skills to be an effective, kind, respected parent. She is AMAZING!

“…there has been a massive—and positive– shift in the way we all interact with one another”

Working with Sharon has transformed our family in so many ways. At the beginning, I said I just didn’t want to feel this overwhelming dread that came on 10 minutes before the school bus returned them home. Sharon is able to adapt parenting tools to the individuals and really thinks about each family member’s personality and the dynamics as a whole. As a result, there has been a massive—and positive– shift in the way we all interact with one another. Not only do I no longer dread my little monsters darlings coming home, but I have found real pleasure in being with each of them. Unfortunately, parenting is a never-ending job and there is no magic solution that makes life forever easy. But working with Sharon has equipped me with so many more techniques than I had before. Which is somewhat embarrassing for a pediatrician to admit. Perhaps more than the way in which she has not judged me for my many missteps as a mother, she provides something parents rarely receive: positive feedback for the moments that are successes. She is both a coach and a cheerleader. I cannot thank her enough.

“I understand so much more about my children now, and I am able to connect with them in a deeper way.”

Working with Sharon was a huge win for our family.  I reached out to her for help with our strong-willed child.  I was engaging in power struggles with him, and often losing them, and didn’t know how to get out of that cycle.  On top of that, my husband I were not really approaching parenting the same way, so we were inconsistent and experiencing some tension in our differences.

Sharon was amazing.  She came to our house and brought such warmth and even joy to our meetings.  She started by getting to know each of us and helping me understand so much more about my children, their core temperaments, and needs.  She was never judgmental, but she gave me more effective ways of meeting their needs and helping adjust behaviors.  I understand so much more about my children now, and I am able to connect with them in a deeper way.

What I love about working with Sharon is that she is very positive.  She made me feel good about our family, about my kids, and about where we were headed.  She reassured me that what were struggling with was normal, and she offered solutions that really did reduce our stress. I also love that she always seems to have a tool or a technique for every situation that comes up.  Her own parenting experience, combined with the experience of all of the other parents she has worked with over the years, provides endless examples to learn from.  I can’t say enough about how valuable she is to us!

“Sharon had a calm, engaging, and nonjudgmental approach…”

We hoped Sharon could teach us how to handle worsening tantrums from our preschooler that left us feeling frustrated and worried about our parenting skills. Sharon offered straightforward, practical strategies and reminders that kept us focused on connecting with our child even in difficult moments. In addition, Sharon had a calm, engaging, and nonjudgmental approach, and we really looked forward to every session with her. Sharon definitely gave us a parenting ‘level up’!

Working with Sharon was the best time and money ever spent!

When I first reached out to Sharon I was looking for guidance and direction on how to best handle my 7-year-old daughter. It felt like we were constantly in a power struggle with one another and our entire family was suffering as a result.

Sharon provided so much value with the real-life techniques that she brought to each coaching session. They made sense, were easy to implement and best of all, they worked!

I have seen so many results they are hard to list off. The biggest take away for me was learning to understand who my daughter is based on her core temperament, which also helped me to realize that much of her behavior has nothing to do with me. As a result, I’ve learned to empathize more and yell less. I’ve also learned to release some of my need for control while allowing my kids to have more control over their own life.

I always felt understood and never judged. Having raised 3 children of her own, I felt like Sharon could totally relate to some of my issues and I appreciated her candidness about her own experiences.

Working with Sharon was the best time and money ever spent!  If you have the opportunity to work with her, know that you can’t go wrong! You will learn a lot about yourself, your children and how best to maximize harmony in your home.

We valued Sharon’s warm, kind and judgment-free coaching style.

We first met Sharon when she spoke at back to school night at our children’s school. Over a year later, we were having some challenges with our kids and thought of the presentation.  We were looking for help in avoiding everyday battles/power struggles with our kids over trivial things like brushing teeth or getting ready for school or bedtime.

We valued Sharon’s warm, kind and judgment-free coaching style. We felt like we could talk with her openly and she understood the battles we were having with our kids.  She was able to provide a vision of how these scenarios could be tweaked to have significantly different outcomes.

In our work together, we came away with many AHA’s.  We now understand that kids have reasons for acting the way they do and that their behavior is not always related to the situation at hand.  We learned how to share control with our kids and to delay dealing with situations until we were able to respond and not simply react. We are more patient with our kids and do a much better job with daily tasks.

Sharon has helped us to be better parents. If you think you need help in this area, call her! It was extremely beneficial to have an objective third party helping us on our parenting journey.

Sharon was exceptional in this role.

I felt better equipped to discuss issues rather than lecture.

I first met Sharon through our village parent group meetings last year. I learned so much from other mothers who were challenged by raising children similar in age to my own. Sharon had such great insights into the minds of children and would even dramatize typical responses that we hear from our kids that were very funny and absolutely accurate depictions of kid’s phrases, facial expressions, vocal intonations I could thoroughly imagine my own son or daughter sitting in front of me. And through her questions and guidance, and the experiences of other moms, I felt better equipped to discuss issues rather than lecture, to be more compassionate than judgmental, and have more humor than frustration with my kids. All of which allowed me to more fully enjoy the company of my children.

After gaining a few parenting tools from Sharon’s group meetings, I felt my husband and I needed additional help in parenting our 14-year-old son. My husband is more than a little skeptical about family counseling but after our first meeting with Sharon, he was fully on board to make changes in parenting style. Immediately my husband understood the reasons why we needed to make some changes in our pattern of discipline. He told Sharon after week one, “I quit yelling cold turkey”. It seemed like a funny expression but was true. The result was that our son was more receptive, calm, affectionate, and fun with us. In one week! We have come to realize that the only behavior we can control is our own. We have reduced our frequent prodding and nagging and lo and behold our son is starting to get himself ready for school on time by himself! A particularly exciting moment came when our son sent a text to his dad apologizing for not being responsible and admitting that he was just mad at us but added that he was “proud” of his father for working on being “better” and really appreciated it and he promised to do better himself also. I was blown away.

The experience has been that of two steps forward, one back, or just treading water some weeks, but overall our vantage point is more realistic and interactions more enjoyable, more fruitful, and I feel less aggravated.

Our son has joined us in a meeting and will continue to do so from time to time along with our 10-year-old daughter. The changes in our parenting style have been less daunting than we thought it would be. I have been in tears more than a few times during this year but now feel that I understand my son better. An additional benefit is that my husband and I are on the same page now with regard to addressing behavior problems. And this is a huge shift, alleviating a significant source of marital disagreements in the past.

Sharon’s insights, experience, sense of humor, nonjudgmental warmth and concern, and her professionalism are qualities that have given me and my husband ongoing encouragement, patience, and sense of humor to get through these teenage years.

The techniques that I have learned have and do work.

When I first reached out to Sharon, I was hoping for a magical way to tame my strong-willed, stubborn child, to get her to listen and do everything I say, and to live happily ever after!

Working with Sharon has given me a balanced approach to seeing things from another perspective or the perspective of my child which in my frantic reactions, is often forgotten or overlooked…along with providing great alternative ideas on how to approach the behavior that I wouldn’t have thought of or know and completely forget in times of chaos.

The techniques that I have learned have and do work. It is ultimately up to me to implement them consistently. This is a tough struggle for me not to revert back to what ineffective habits and reactions that I am used to but I am working on it and am trying to focus on our relationship instead of the behavior!

Sharon has been a great friend throughout my coaching with her.  She is easy to talk to, is a good listener, provides me with effective ideas pertinent to my situation, and provides a comfortable approach to sometimes not so comfortable situations. A+ in my book! Thank you!!!

You will feel more confident as a parent!!

When I began coaching with Sharon I wasn’t really sure what I needed but did know that I needed ways to better communicate with my kids and for them to communicate with each other. I also wanted to learn how to make mornings more seamless and calmer!

Coaching with Sharon has been so valuable with many results and “Aha’s”. I have learned to let some things go, really not sweat the small stuff and focus on having more fun with the kids! I have learned not to react, not to lecture, and to take the “less is more” approach which has all made an enormous difference in our house! I have also learned to involve my kids more in decisions such as chores and family activities. This has empowered them and has even stopped sibling fights! If you are thinking of working with Sharon, this is a decision you will not regret and will make you feel more confident as a parent!!

It Takes a Village- “Happy Parents”

The Village has had a huge impact on how we as a family function on a daily basis.

When we reached out to Sharon, we were honestly looking for answers on how to discipline.  We felt like we were just doing it all wrong.

Nothing we did seem to work. Taking away video game and TV time was not the answer.  We knew we had to try something new.  We just did not know what!

We absolutely love working with Sharon.  After each meeting, we felt so empowered, like we could be the best parents on earth because the advice she gave us was so helpful.  Each week after the meetings were always the best in our house.  I think having the “homework” each week really helped us to focus on one or two things at a time and to not feel the stress of trying to make everything perfect.  Knowing that others are dealing with the same issues and getting great support from Sharon as well as others in our group was also so helpful.

We definitely have a better understanding of a healthy parent and child relationship after working with Sharon.  For me personally, the Village helped me to see what I was doing as a mother and to pull back a little on thinking everything needed to be perfect. The Village has had a huge impact on how we as a family function on a daily basis. Chores, allowances and all being team players.  We love all the things we learned from Sharon and she really helped us to not only learn them but implement them.

If you are thinking of joining the Village, it is 100% worth it!  We as parents need the support of others to get through these years. Things change every day – just when you think you have your kids figured out, they change.  I loved having Sharon to talk to. It helped to build my confidence as a parent, which helped in how we handled situations with our children. To have someone who has been through it and understands, to have others who are going through the same thing. It really was the best experience!!

This is such a valuable resource on so many levels.

After taking both Connection Parenting and Love and LogicⓇ with Sharon, I wanted to continue our parenting discussions to be able to address other situations that came up that were perhaps not covered in the classes. I also wanted a place to explore ideas with other parents with similar values and parenting beliefs.

Sharon was very instrumental in connecting the great skills and tools we learned in the classes to everyday life and she offered creative solutions to getting out of patterns of behavior. Gaining perspective has been the biggest impact for me, and my family has benefitted from a more consistent parenting approach.  This is such a valuable resource on so many levels. Sharon is able to expand on many topics of interest as well as provide advice on specific situations and you get the benefit of a lot of group discussion and input from other parents.

The Village provided different perspectives that allowed me to reflect on what type of parent I wanted to be.

Being a first-time mom I was looking for solutions to raise a well–adjusted and independent child in a loving home.

The Village Parent Chats with Sharon provided different perspectives that allowed me to reflect on what type of parent I wanted to be. A couple of learnings that we put into practice were to be present, make it fun, and let them fail small.

As a result, we are much more present with each other. There is less stress as we are truly focused on each other. We use mistakes as an opportunity to learn. My five-year-old son is always using the words “problem solve.” We have tons of fun!

A lot of parents reflect the way they were raised on their children because that is what they know. Being a part of The Village provides a different perspective. It allows you to learn from others and challenges you to really think about how YOU want to raise your children.  Join The Village with Sharon and become the parent YOU want to be.

Pam and John Tebbetts

We have more joy in our daily life.

My husband and I decided to take a chance on Sharon’s parenting classes as well as join her Village Parent Chat groups in hopes of helping us with our two boys.  They are 14 months apart and our goal was to get help dealing with sibling rivalry.  Little did we know we needed guidance in so many other ways!

The classes taught us to look at parenting issues from a different perspective.  We have learned to respond to our children’s behavior instead of reacting.  There are numerous tools we were given throughout the course that allows us to handle most issues in a constructive, calm manner. The day after the meetings was always the best day of the week! Sharon provided valuable comments about our particular circumstances and her insight and feedback were always so appreciated.

While we are still a “work in progress” we have more joy in our daily life.

We would recommend her classes and the Village for any parent that would like to improve parent/child harmony at any age.

I have discovered that parenting CAN be fun

When I registered for my first class with Sharon, I️ was looking for parenting techniques that would help and not hinder the relationship with my child.

During our Village Parent Chats, Sharon helped me to see that even though parenting is a serious topic, it is important to keep it light and fun! Sense of humor goes a long way in life. And I have discovered that parenting CAN be fun and that modeling behavior is a major part of this. Our kids know when we respect and love them even when we have to address and change behavior.

If you are looking to learn positive parenting techniques, It Takes a Village Parent Chat group will help you do just this and in a setting that provides a safe and supportive environment.

Colleen

I’m a much calmer, happier and more confident mother to my children and partner to my husband.

When I joined It Takes a Village parent chat group, I was looking to become a more patient, understanding, confident and peaceful parent and partner.

Sharon provided both a philosophical approach to my relationships with my children but also useful skills and tools that helped me put those philosophical goals into action.

By utilizing the tools and approach to communicating and connecting with my children that Sharon introduced, I’m able to navigate our ups and downs without losing my cool. There is overall less stress in our home and I’m a much calmer, happier and more confident mother to my children and partner to my husband. I’ve embraced the approach of identifying and parenting to my children’s individual personalities and their individual needs. Being a part of this parenting support group under Sharon’s guidance will help you become a more confident parent who is capable of enjoying joyful and encouraging relationships with your children as they grow.

Samantha Minutelli

Have you laughed with your kids today?
